This is an update: the Rat three has been my EDC since I bought it, carried horizontally. The knife has gone camping, backpacking, and fishing. I've dug roots in the garden, and battoned chunks out of 2X6 rafters because it was handy, and well...it's NOT an expensive knife. After what can only be described as abuse, the knife is holding up well. The paint has a few chips and scratches from hammer taps and rocks, but the edge has not chipped or bent. I use a whetstone every time I abuse it, and you can shave with it after a touch up. The only problem has been that the sheath holds moisture, and it WILL rust if you are not careful. I would replace it with another in a heartbeat. Happy camper!Original review:Required sharpening from the box. But. Holds a razor edge after about a half hours work with the work sharp and stone. I have the sheath set for side carry. It is a perfect EDC and backpacking knife. Strong enough to rely on, cheap enough not feel bad about abusing. Feels great in the hand. I have large hands, and the groove in the blade for the finger and thumb let me get a good grip on a smaller blade. Most knives that fit my hand have too large a blade for EDC. This is a nice compromise.
