Superb if predictable. I would recommend looking at Perseus on the Tufts website. They've upgraded their usability and now their product is the best I've used. But for old-style usage, this dictionary is acceptable. Mine is not a hardcover, but a kind of rubbery softcover, despite the "hardcover" name. When I got this, I wasn't expecting it to be this good. I mean it's still no BDAG or Liddell Scott, but this thing actually has multiple entries for the dropped first vowel words created from double vowels. The first has a rough usage. The second has the extended spelling where you can actually look up the actual word with the missing vowel.Much more complete "lesikov" than I was expecting. The copy I got is strictly Greek to English as well (which is what I prefer). I couldn't be happier. For little money, I have a travel reference that is pretty extensive. I love this little sucker.Good for when you're traveling. I am a classics student and went backpacking around Europe for five months before grad school. Not wanting to bring my Liddell (which there is NO replacement for!) I brought this around instead. It did the job, and its thick cover did an amazing job keeping it bound during all the traveling (I can't say that about everything else I brought). This is not at all a series lexicon though! If you are in a class you must buy the middle Liddell and Scott, its a must for any classics student. My colleagues' evaluations are largely correct, nevertheless I must flunk this booklet. The print is clear, the binding holds, and the author saved space by listing most or all expected meanings. He shows the "Red Line" while avoiding example-phrases and admission of ambiguity, as so often seen in the heavyweights. But one kind of information is crucial for me: which c a s u s rules the verb, or to which preposition (if other than expected) does it connect itself? This is not indicated here. Sorry: Buy a bigger dictionary; you make yourself unhappy using this one.I like all of the Langenscheidt's language dictionaries. Compact, easy to read. This is only Classical Greek-to-English, and has no English-to-Greek. I suppose we are not expected to write our own Classical Greek narratives.think twice before buying this dictionary -- the type on the printed pages is so poor (blurred, small, smudgy) that it is almost illegible -- legibility is critical in any kind of Greek Dictionary when you need to read accents, breathing marks, diphthongs, etc. Really not acceptable as replacement for a real dictionary.Arrived promptly, intact and as offered. When it comes to an inexpensive, pocket-sized dictionary for the beginning student of Greek, Langensheidt's POCKET GREEK DICTIONARY is just about the only option. However, it has a few minuses. The layout of the dictionary is rather hard on the eyes. The typeface used is difficult to read, and if a sentence runs over the margin, it is shifted one line up, not down! Strangely, the book doesn't use quite the same alphabetical order of most Greek lexicons, meaning that one spends more time flipping around trying to find a word. As a fan of Aristophanes' comedies, which often include bawdy scenes, I was disappointed to find that this dictionary didn't include - whether from lack of space or puritanism - the obscene words which one must know to understand Aristophanes' humour. If you're new to the study of Greek, I would recommend this dictionary right away because it is economical and pocket-sized. However, if you plan to continue your study of ancient Greek, saving for the much more expensive but superior Oxford lexicons is necessary.
