First off I want to say that these aren't actual throwing knives as most people think of them. They are infact closer to the Japanese shuriken known as Bo shuriken and Teppan shuriken. The Bo shuriken is the lightest, about the size and shape of a small sharpened pencil. The Teppan shuriken is heavier, more wide, and flat. These knives are roughly in between the two, being very light, but also flat rather than rounded. The technique most effective i have found is that of an advanced Bo shuriken throw, where the wrist acts as a whip, effectively throwing the blade as a spear, leaving the hand almost facing upright, with only a slight 90 degree rotation that gradually happens before hitting the intended target.I should also add that the sheath that comes with these knives is excellent. I've gotten nearly every " throwing knife" set sold here on amazon and most of them poke through the bottom of their sheath, which is usually somewhat cheaply made. This particular set has a heavy duty sheath to prevent the tips from sticking through. That's wonderful.These throwers are most similar to the the japanese shuriken, in that the technique that is most effective for throwing them is in the same way a shuriken is thrown.Contrary to popular belief, with any form of knife throwing it is improper and much less effective for the knife to rotate or flip when it is thrown. Most people think that when you throw a knife it should topple over itself several times before hitting its target. This technique is improper, unnecessary, and far less accurate. Also your distance in relation to your target must be carefully measured. If either you or your target move, your rotating knife will likely hit butt first, or miss entirely.These throwers are very effective when thrown correctly. With proper form and an understanding of how projectiles work, these are capable of being deadly. (with the Bo shuriken throw 9 times out of 10 you will hit your intended target.)Also to note is that I've been throwing for 15 years so beginners should pick up a book that describes in detail the different types of throws associated with the Japanese shuriken to make the most out of these knives. The best one I know of is " Japanese Throwing Weapons" by Daniel Fletcher. That book is excellent and comes with an instructional DVD. You'll increase your accuracy tenfold by adapting the techniques in this book.
