Wow, this is my new favorite knife!A rugged Post-Apocalyptic ECD, just like Gerber said it would be. For the time being I will use this as a Pre-Apocalyptic EDC!Rick Grimes has this knife in a Modified Clip Point version, and he seemed to really have alot of fun with it. So I wanted to give this one a shot in the Tanto. I may have to get the other one too after playing around with this, it is just that nice. Might be cool to have one of each blade type so you can carry the same knife for different situations.Wicked sharp right out of the package. Just touch that Tanto blade to paper and it melts right through it.The weight of the knife feels great. Some say it's too heavy, but I say it's just built well. There is metal all inside the handle to support the pommel and locking mechanism. Everything feel 100% secure. You will love the way this beast feels in your hand! Some people have stated that they can not open this one handed and will need to pry it open with both hands...I was able to open this one handed immediately (very easily in fact), and if you have the right wrist flick you can open it without using any thumb studs at all. The action is so clean, you'll almost get addicted to opening it. I haven't had a knife that made me smile this much ever.I wasn't sure on the "wedge lock", as I have never had a knife with one, but I have to say I like it alot. You don't "need" to pull both sides down at the same time but you can if you want. (A cool little fun fact that I found just from playing with it is, if you depress the wedge lock with your thumb, you can give a gently but firm wrist flick and the blade deploy's as fast as the AUTO version). It's really cool, never had a knife I could do that with. Some people have also mentioned that they don't know what the blade steel is, and just say, "must be Gerber's mystery steel. Well for anyone that does want to know, the new one I just got has that info right on the packaging and states that it is 7Cr17Mov! Which in my opinion is not bad at all. In fact it is better than I thought! Which for those that don't know, it is a really good middle of the road steel type. 7Cr17Mov is equal to 440A. (Which means: Daily use where corrosion resisitance is desired over long term edge retention). Nice huh? Better than most actually. The added angled pommel is a nice touch too, I could see this coming in handy at some point down the line. Glass, faces, etc...lol.The G-10 scales on this thing resemble a carbon fiber weave, and they feel pretty good in your hand. The finger grooves fit the average hand nicely and there are also some decent jimping on the backside...nice touch! Man what a solid grasp on this thing. This is my first Tanto, and I have to say, yeah I f'n love it. Can't stop playing with this knife. Also, the clip feels and is very sturdy and I have to say I love the new Gerber logo's!For $40 I think this is a steal and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rugged EDC. Good job Gerber on this one. If the Auto version wasn't 4 times the cost of this I would have "sprung" on that, but for a 1/4 of the price this is F'ing awesome.IF AFTER READING THIS REVIEW YOU ARE STILL NOT CONVINCED THAN THIS IS NOT THE KNIFE FOR YOU.I do like this knife, I really like Gerber anyway, I would have given it five stars if it had the little nob on the bottom to help open the blade up one handed, a lot of times at work the smaller one I use I don't need it until the last minute to cut a cord or something, it is very easy to use your finger on the under side to start the blade and finish it with the thumb guide. I mainly bought this one because Rick used it on the "Walking Dead". It is a great tactical knife which I can carry when I am not at work, it looks a little too scary for the people I work with. But for the most part, I don't think you can go wrong with this knife.wow I love this thing. Ive been backpacking for some time and take this thing with me everywhere. It clips in my pocket nice and easy, has some surprising heft to it and feels study as hell. The open and close action is super smooth and its very comfortable** UPDATE - 18 Months Later **Sweet mercy, how have I lived without this thing. For the last 18 months I have been traveling the world and this thing never leaves my side. Unimaginably tough, I have used it as a hammer, a bottle opener, a saw to cut through some serious wood, busting through sheet metal, hacking off nails, preparing food, you name it. I have beat on this bad boy relentlessly and it just keeps on taking it. I LOVE that it fits nice and discreetly inside my pocket or on my side but is a serious beast when you whip it out. This is my favorite knofe from gerber I have bought so far. The thumbstones found on eithe side of the handle are plastic and broke recently after I had purchased the item but I took it to sears hardware and replaced the plastic with a stack of small washers that had a small enough hole to be held in place by the original scrww and small enough in diameter that it fit in the same groove line to make it less sharp so its easyier to close. I think it made the knife even better. I would recomend this knofe to absolutely everyone because its handel gives you the best feeling grip ever. Sturdy enough for puncturing without the feeling that the knife will close on your hand. The blade locks in place well and is easy to flick open. The glass break is sleak and built into the handel nicely and gomes with the great option for the clip to be switched to either side for leftysand rightys.sharp and deadly. I killed six bears with this blade. they were all around 500 pounds. had to sharpen it on a rock after the first two kills but it works great. i'm not a hunter, this was in self-defense. those bastards had it coming after they pooped on my house while i was swimming in the river. one of them also ate my pet fish, Lawrence, and left just the head in my bed. i still dont know how that sneaky fur ball got into my hut, i put a spell on the entrance so nobody can enter except me and Carmen Electra. i live in the wild and only come back to civilization for one day only every 10 years just to write reviews on amazon.Still made in the USA...I could probably stop there. I have a much higher end military issue Gerber and my son has been eyeballing it over the past several years. Mine is literally heirloom quality. While this Tanto is not quite at that level - this is a beautiful knife and something he will have the rest of his life.My son makes Eagle Scout in the spring and caries a knife almost all the time outside of school. I want to stop buying him Chinese made junk and start buying him quality pieces that he can carry into adulthood. The Tanto is balanced well, excellent fit and finish and just looks awesome. For the price here on amazon, it cannot be beat.la calidad es buena, pero tiene acero chino y es maquilada en china. la version americana de este modelo es acero s30v con flipper.el peso es bueno y la calidad también. pero en mi opinion no vale más de 1000 pesos mexicanos por menos de 1000 pesos hay otras muy buenas opciones como spyderco tenacious acero chino y maquilado chino. o tambien kershaw
