Description

Product Description The 48-22-1901 Fastback quick-release utility knife from Milwaukee is the type of tool that you can effectively use wherever you are, at any time of day. Whether you’re in construction, work outdoors, or just need a tool for slicing rope or tape in your day-to-day life, this is for you. Its robust, all metal design will hold up to drops from a variety of heights, not that dropping it is likely. An ergonomic handle conforms to most hands, making grip easy. On top of that, when it’s not in use you can keep it stored snugly on your belt or pants with the bolted-on wire clip. This thin metal will clasp firmly to whatever thin fabrics are on your person without damaging them. Speaking of wires, there are a couple handy functions that this knife can perform thanks to some unique design features. For one, the back of the handle can act as a gut hook. When the knife is closed, you can loop string, twine, or wire through the knife to make quick cuts. When the knife is open, there is a notch near the base of the blade release system that allows you to strip up to 10 gauge wire. When doing electrical work, packing, moving, construction, renovation, or any other general contracting, having this handy blade from Milwaukee is a must. From the Manufacturer Designed to activate the blade 3X faster than a 2-handed opening knife, the Fastback Utility Knife features a one handed blade opening for easy activation. A tool free blade change offers less down time in the field, while a thin body design allows the user to easily store the knife in their pocket. An integrated gut hook and wire stripper also increase utility.

Features

ONE-HANDED OPENING A button onboard the ergonomically designed handle allows you to flip the blade out with ease. When you’re finished with the blade, press and hold the button, swing the blade into a closed position, and keep in your pocket

ONBOARD WIRE STRIPPING A hook in the back of the unit can strip up to 10 gauge wire. You don’t even need to have the knife flipped out to get important work finished

TOOL-FREE BLADE CHANGING Press a button near the blade, and you can slide it out for easy replacements

WIRE FRAME BELT CLIP Use this to attach to your belt, pants, or bags without damaging the knife or your own fabrics

ALL-METAL CONSTRUCTION This knife’s robust design can hold up to extreme wear and tear you would expect to handle on the job site

UPDATE - after several months of use, I have to bump up the rating on this product. It's the utility knife reached for every time. Reason - ergonomics. Yes, it's more expensive than comparable import folding boxcutters, and no, there's no onboard blade storage, but all in all, this is a good quality knife, despite the rather loose blade pivot (and no, there is no way to tighten up on the pivot screw - it comes from the factory at max torque already. Recommended.Nice ergonomics, but ... pivot is WAYYY too loose (blade just falls open), although I have not yet taken a Torx to the pivot screw to see if any of the slack can be taken up. Yeah, I get the questionable "flip open" concept. Overall, a "nice" utility knife, but better quality is available for well under ten dollars at any of the big box stores. This includes a beefier blade carrier, a better blade latch/release, a more solid lockup, and more solid construction overall. Similar design competitive knives also offer a real belt clip, rather than a flimsy wire loop as provided on this knife. This knife should be priced under ten dollars to be competitive. Compare to house brand folding utility knives at "L****" or "H*** D****". Is it worth the trouble to return it? No, but if you're looking for one of the folding-type utility knives, save your money and pick up a generic store brand for about half this price locally. It's a matter of personal preference, but you are probably better off with one of the newer-design retractable utility knives, which now have better ergonomics, tool-less blade change, and of course -- onboard blade storage. With the folding type knives like the Milwaukee, you've got two blade edges to work with before you need to go home to get another blade .....
