I bought my first table saw secondhand, a dw744 type 1. It doesn't have any of the original accessories and I didn't realize when I bought it that it didn't original have a riving knife. Based on the other review posted here I bought this one intended for the later models. I drilled a separate hole to get it positioned correctly, sacrificing a carbide bit and a stepper. I noticed that it didn't want to let the blade retract all the way down as the bottom of the knife would collide with the dust collector below so I cut the bottom off with a hacksaw and some tap magic. The steel is hardened and pretty hard to get through but I feel safer using my table saw with this in place. With the blade all the way down the riving knife will still protrude a bit but I think that's something I can live with.
